Christmas Eve Crib Service

Led by Revd Lucy Brierley

Welcome

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon virgin mother and Child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds quake at the sight;
Glories stream from heaven afar,
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born,
Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, love’s pure light;
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of saving grace,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth,
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth.

Little Donkey, little Donkey
On the dusty road
Got to keep on plodding onward
With your precious load.
Been a long time little donkey
Through the winter’s night
Don’t give up now little donkey
Bethlehem’s in sight.

Ring out those bells tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Follow that star tonight Bethlehem, Bethlehem
Little Donkey, little Donkey had a heavy day.
Little donkey carry Mary safely on her way.

Little Donkey Little Donkey journey’s end is near
There are wise men waiting for a   sign to bring them here
Do not falter little donkey,         there’s a star ahead,
It will guide you little donkey,           to a cattle shed.

Ring out those bells….

Away in a manger,
no crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus
lay down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky
looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus,
asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing,
the Baby wakes,
But little Lord Jesus,
no crying He makes;
I love Thee, Lord Jesus,
look down from the sky
And stay by my side
until morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay,
Close by me forever,
and love me, I pray!
Bless all the dear children
in Thy tender care
And fit us for heaven,
to Live with Thee there.

Calypso Carol
See him lying on a bed of straw,
draughty stable with an open door,
Mary cradling the child she bore;
the Prince of Glory is his name:

Oh now carry me to Bethlehem
to see the Lord of love again
just as poor as was the stable then,
the Prince of Glory when he came.

Star of silver sweep across the skies,
show where Jesus in the manger lies;
shepherds, swiftly from your stupor rise
to see the Saviour of the world

Angels, sing again the song you sand,
God’s great glory and redeeming plan
sing that Bethlem’s little baby can
be the Saviour of us all.

Mine are riches from your poverty
from your innocence, eternity
mine, forgiveness by your death for me;
Child of sorrow for my joy

Prayer Time

Lord Jesus, we thank you that you were born into this world
Help us to love you and to serve you.
We thank you that you came to show us how much you love us.
Help us to love you and to serve you.
We thank you that you showed us that all are welcome and important to God
Help us to love you and to serve you.
This Christmas time may we be bold in telling your story
May we share the joy of your presence in this world.
Help us to journey to Bethlehem in our hearts.
May we know the peace of Christ child in our hearts and homes. Amen

Once in royal David’s city
Stood lowly cattle shed
Where a mother held her baby
In a manger for his bed.
Mary was that mother mild
Jesus Christ her little child.

He came down to earth from heaven
Who is God and Lord of all
And his shelter was a stable
And his cradle was a stall.
With the poor and mean and lowly
Lived on earth our Saviour holy.

And he is our childhood’s pattern
Day by day like us he grew
He was little, weak and helpless
Tears and smiles like us he knew.
And he feeleth for our sadness
And he shareth in our gladness.

Not in that poor lowly stable
With the oxen standing by
We shall see him but in heaven
Set at God’s right hand on high.
For he leads his people on
To the place where he is gone

The Virgin Mary had a baby boy
The Virgin Mary had a baby boy
The Virgin Mary had a baby boy
And they said that His name was Jesus

He come from the glory
He come from the glorious kingdom
He come from the glory
He come from the glorious kingdom
Oh, yes! believer
Oh, yes! believer
He come from the glory
He come from the glorious kingdom

The angels sang when the baby was born…
And they said that His name was Jesus
He come from the glory…

The wise men saw where the baby was born…
And they said that His name was Jesus

He come from the glory
