Giving to the work of the Church

As well as providing weekly worship we are a charitable organisation, supporting a staff team and numerous social action projects throughout the week including youthwork, pastoral care, social drop-ins, community events and initiatives.

Giving from friends and members is essential to our work and ministry. If you would like to give to support us there are various ways of doing it as detailed below.

Gift Aid is extremely beneficial to the Church as it recovers an additional 25% of the amount donated from HMRC. All options allow those who are eligible UK taxpayers to Gift Aid their donations. To be eligible you need to pay more in tax than WURC recover.

A gift aid declaration can cover the last 4 years as well as current and future years. In 2020, over £26,000 was recovered. Money donated directly via Standing Order, Bank Transfer, or Cheque will qualify if you complete a Gift Aid Declaration form

Standing Orders

For most of those who give on a regular basis this is the preferred option. If you have access to online banking, it is extremely easy to set up a Standing Order and then manage it. For example, if you wish to increase or decrease the amount or change the date on which the transfer is made, it can all be done.

If you do set up a new Standing Order in this way, please let the Church Treasurer know so we can check it is working. Alternatively, you can fill in a Standing Order form then send it to your bank with a copy to the Church Treasurer (treasurer@wokingurc.org.uk or by post to: Treasurer, Woking URC, White Rose Lane, Woking GU22 7HA)

This is also the best method for Woking URC as there are no transaction fees to pay and the bookkeeping is very straightforward.

Online

If you’d like to give online to support the general work and ministry of the church please visit our donation page

Contactless

There is a contactless card machine-located on the left-hand side before the exit doors from the Forum to the Foyer which can be used to make donations to:

  • The general work and ministry of the church.
  • Refreshments.
  • Appeals.

Cash & Cheques

For regular donations or response to an appeal, cheques or cash are a good way to give as there is no transaction cost.

Cheques can be sent to the church office or direct to the Church Treasurer. To help with allocating the amount correctly, it is necessary to provide a reference on the reverse of the cheque or include a note inside the envelope that contains the cheque or cash. If no instructions are provided the money will be allocated to the General Fund.

Administration is greater than for Standing Orders or Bank Transfers as it requires a visit to the bank to pay cheques/cash in.

Bank Transfer

For one off donations, for example responding to an appeal, a bank transfer is ideal for those with online banking. All that is needed is to enter the church’s bank account details, as above, and provide a reference such as the name of the appeal or just donation. Again, no transaction fees apply, bookkeeping is straightforward, and Gift Aid can be claimed if a declaration form has already been provided.

Legacies

Leaving a legacy to a charity is a very popular way of helping others when you have gone. Legacies helped fund the wonderful new AV system which we  are currently enjoying.

By leaving a gift to Woking URC in your will, you will help make an important long-term contribution to the work of the Church. It will be free of inheritance tax, so all you need to do is to tell your solicitor or will writer, that you would like to leave a legacy to Woking URC.
